Resolution on Expanding Medicare For All Americans
Florida Alliance for Retired Americans
The reform of our health care system continues to be a matter of great urgency. The high cost of health care has created a crisis that must be resolved by government to protect the health of the public, to reduce costs to businesses, and to enhance U.S. competitiveness in the world economy.
-
A single payer system would sharply reduce administrative costs in the United States to expand coverage, increase benefits, and save money.
-
Expanding the Medicare program, a successful program that enjoys broad public support, to make it available to all Americans is the most economical and practical method of reducing the high cost of health care.
-
Using Medicare as a single payer would ensure that health care coverage would be universal, continuous, affordable to individuals and families, and affordable and sustainable for society. In addition, it would enhance health and well-being by promoting access to high-quality care that is effective, efficient, safe, timely, patient-centered, and equitable. Everyone would continue to be able to choose physicians and hospitals as is now the case in Medicare.
Be it resolved that we call upon every member of Congress to support health care legislation that would make the Medicare program available to all Americans. Legislation must ensure that every American is entitled to receive physician and hospital care, long-term care, prescription drugs, dental care, medical equipment, substance abuse treatment, and vision care.
